An Old School Techno Night 3

(01-Dec-2018)

After a two-year hiatus, TMJ dusted off the mixing skills once again and had the pleasure to return to the wheels of steel for the third installment of "An Old School Techno Night".  TMJ was the guest DJ alongside longtime friend and collaborator DJ Badger.  This event was held at 'Lot No. 6 Art Bar' in Tulsa's Pearl District.  The music for this event was once again geared towards classic techno and related dance genres from the late 80s to mid 90s. a night full of music that would have been heard in Tulsa's club scenes of that era.  Many featured tracks at this event would have been dance floor anthems heard at Tulsa's classic IKON.

TMJ performed as guest DJ at the second annual installment of "An Old School Techno Night" presented by Awesome Retro DJ Service.  This event was held at The Fur Shop in downtown Tulsa.  The music for the event was geared towards classic techno and related dance genres from the late 80s to mid 90s that were heard in Tulsa's club scenes of that time.  Many featured tracks at this event would have been dance floor anthems for DJ TMJ himself during his many youthful nights at Tulsa's classic IKON.

DJ TMJ performed at Tulsa's "Lot No. 6" as a guest DJ for ResurXtion 19.  TMJ is a long time fan of Nine Inch Nails which made this an enjoyable event.  Playing alongside DJs Badger and Axis added to the enjoyment as both DJs share an affinity for Trent Reznor's (Nine Inch Nails a.k.a. The Great Gypsy Chillout*

(1-Apr-2010)

An evening event focused on the slower side of things.  A very relaxed mixture of nothing but great downtempo tracks.

*Though I was offered the opportunity to DJ at this event with my good friend DJ Badger, I opted out and chose to assist with the show's setup, tear down, and lights.  DJ Badger still billed the event with both our names and I thank him for including me.

Depeche Mode Night

(24-Apr-2009)

An evening of music played with DJ Badger centered around the band Depeche Mode.  This event was planned as a celebration, perhaps even a black celebration, surrounding the release of the new album "Sounds of the Universe."

During my set this evening I was able to feature several remixes made just for the event as well as a personal remake of Depeche mode song "To Have and To Hold."

This also was marked as a special event because  it was the first time to publicly premier any piece of music featuring TMJ as the vocalist.

Bikini Pop Fiasco

(1-Apr-2006)

An event with DJ Badger designed to be a more adult oriented performance.  This simply meant we would be playing songs with explicit language which we normally both avoid at normal shows when possible.

It was a fun evening overall but though it was billed as a mature evening, a few of the people there acted less than mature adults.  The resulting effects of the evening caused a long hiatus before scheduling another show at the same venue.

Retro Without Shame

 (16-July-2005)

An event with DJ Badger billed as a "1980s-1990s Bikini Dance Party."  The music was enjoyable, the set was fun to play and though it wasn't the largest crowd, those that attended were great to interact with.

Hallowmania

(30-Oct-2004)

An event with DJ Badger planned as a follow up to "Halloween in August."  This was a costume encouraged event that turned out very well.  Badger came as a member of Blue Man Group and TMJ as an Imperial Stormtrooper from 'Star Wars'

Halloween In August

(7-Aug-2004)

An event with DJ Badger planned as a summer masquerade.  It was a fun event and the set lists were great.  The crowd, though not the largest, was active and some did participate in the wearing of costumes.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Turn 18

 (12-June-2004)

As a  joke, DJ Badger planned a mock birthday party for the twin twits to celebrate their coming of age.  Mind you, Mary-Kate and Ashley weren't at the party, the party really and truly wasn't about them, nor would they probably approve of their names being tied to this event.  At least one person seemed to think Badger truly had any unhealthy obsession with the pair of toddler starlets who gained their fame trading off playing the youngest family member in a "Full House" [character] Michelle Tanner.  All that being said, Badger didn't have an unhealthy obsession, just a  sick sense of humor at times.  The long running jokes in Badgers spoken word performances gave rise to this event which was designed to be like a rather large house party at a public venue.

This was the first major event, to my knowledge, DJ Badger planned and executed at the Gypsy Coffee House in Downtown Tulsa.  He was familiar with the staff and owner of the venue due to their open mic night where Badger would often perform comedic jokes and poems of a dark and often sick nature.  The party itself was great, the music was fantastic, the turnout and total business drawn into the Gypsy Coffee House set a record high the evening of the party; total sales that might not have been matched again to this day by any event hosted there.  (total sales in one evening adjusted for inflation)  Though the night was deemed a success, the crowd was kind of a disappointment.  There was far less people dancing than we hoped would be and most seemed intent to just sit and listen to the music rather than let the music move them.

This event would mark the first major collaborative event between DJ Badger and DJ TMJ who was honored to accept the invitation to perform.
